Raising Godly Boys

teach-inspire-graphic I was reading a post recently on a wonderful blog called, The MOB Society (“Mothers of Boys”). The entire blog is dedicated to equipping and encouraging parents to raise Godly men. As the mother of one son and three daughters, I’ve learned to appreciate the difference when it comes to raising boys from raising girls. I also appreciate that there’s a great need to help our sons grow up into Godly men. While my husband’s influence is significant in this area, I know that a mother’s role is equally important (if not more so).

In their series on “Raising Good Men,” the authors offer several excellent articles focusing on developing the fruits of the spirit. I hope you take the time to visit their blog. You’ll be very glad you did.

One of the things I hope to achieve with this blog is to help Christian parents find tools and resources that will truly encourage and equip them in what I believe to be the most important ministry of their lives … that being, raising their sons and daughters to walk in the knowledge and instruction of the Lord.

While academics are extremely important in our homeschooling efforts, the more important goal is to help nurture and train their spirits. As Christian homeschooling parents, we need both. One of the things we kept in mind throughout the years of homeschooling our children was that developing their “character” was more important than their grades.

Our son’s level of energy and activity was much different than his sisters. Boys, as we discovered, are very different than girls. The risk we can sometimes face as Christian parents is to fail to recognize these differences and end up discouraging our sons to develop and walk in the fullness of their masculinity.  We should teach them the importance of gentleness and humility, but we shouldn’t compel them to become passive or weak. Our sons were created to become men. It’s our responsibility … and our privilege … to help them become Godly men.

We pray for the Lord’s guidance and help as you continue to follow and pursue Him in your homeschooling.

Please email us or post your comments below if you have questions or if we can help you in any way. You are in our prayers.

Blessings,

Lisa
