Teaching in my Home Today, Affecting the Future

This week I finished an amazing school year of teaching over 50 children in Art and French in my home and online!

I also started a summer session where 35 new children have walked into my life and stolen my heart!

I love teaching and impacting young people, knowing that the influence can last a lifetime. I have been teaching home school families in the community for over 20 years and my own kids were taught all the way through their education for roughly 26 years!

I always start my Art classes with my philosophy on creativity …
“Born creative to create”

I teach wide-eyed young ones starting at age 5, that the first thing we learn about God in Genesis is that He created everything. The first thing we learn about us,man, is that we’re made in His image-therefore we too are creative!

As art major in college I did a senior art show based on this belief and depicted the days of creation from Genesis in large pastel pencil drawings.

In the series I show my interpretation of each day and then painted Aslan, Jesus, the Lord of creation hanging over it. I said to the community viewing the show that I believe this happened and that’s why I’m an artist. When I create, I am like Him and I bring Him glory as His child.

I love seeing the children’s eyes as they look at each drawing. This is day 6, Creation of Adam

adamOne of the moms whose 6 year old came to class this week commented on Facebook: “Pretty sure Rhi’s first Drawing class today and today’s discussion afterwards has filled my heart up in a way only God could have done.”

It brought tears to my eyes because I want to be used by God in that way!!!

I feel called by God to share my heart on His ways with children. What we teach our children does help shape them for the rest of their lives!! What an honor and privilege!

“Train a child the way he should go and when he is old he won’t depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6
